Today marks the 2nd annual BRA day. While I wish I had never had breast cancer, never had to have a mastectomy, I am so thankful for the reconstruction that gave me my “womanhood” back. My reconstruction was everything to me. I had the good fortune to have the finances and the access to a fantastic plastic surgeon – Dr. Tenley Lawton in Newport Beach, CA. I give thanks to her and to all the finely skilled plastic surgeons who perform breast reconstruction after a cancer diagnosis. You make a difference! For me my reconstruction brought back my confidence, it brought back my ability to move through my life without always being self conscious of what was underneath my clothes. I no longer had to hide my bosom behind scarves and baggy shirts.
I wish nothing but great outcomes for any woman who undergoes a mastectomy and who chooses to have reconstruction. For me, reconstruction meant everything.
